Pixar.com
Pixar’s strength lies within its masterful storytelling and technical prowess. Its films are beautiful and compelling. The idea for this website was to tell stories about Pixar and its work.
The homepage is a randomly rotated image from Pixar’s current feature film.
The Feature Films section contains stories of Pixar’s feature-length animations. Each film is presented in a linear storybook format which deviates from traditional web navigation and only allows the user to go forward or backward. The user can quickly read about a film’s plot, characters and making but can also choose to explore deeper within each page via pop-up pages.
The Short Films section tells the tales Pixar’s world-famous shorts. Because these shorts are often technical experiments, a sketchbook metaphor was used.
The Theater allows users to view nothing but video clips. Behind the curtains are all of Pixar’s short films in their entirety, feature film trailers, and the outtakes from the features.
How We Do It describes Pixar’s process for making a film. Using a View-Master metaphor, it shows the steps from early concepts to post-production.
The Artist’s Corner section regularly profiles three Pixar employees and is used to show the unique culture and personality of the company.
RenderMan is Pixar’s product section, containing marketing and support materials for its RenderMan products.
Company Info is the corporate information section, including a history timeline tracing its achievements in bite-sized bits.
